đŸ” Matcha in California: Sunshine, Wellness & My LA Matcha Love Affair

Written by MATCHA MAYA — a solo traveller following the world’s most memorable green cups. đŸ”

Matcha Maya’s note: What stayed with me in California was not just the colour of the drink, but the small human moment around it—the conversation, the setting, and the feeling that I had found something local. ✨

Welcome to California – where wellness meets matcha! 🌮

I'll never forget the moment I arrived in Los Angeles. The city was bathed in golden sunshine, and the scent of jasmine and sea salt filled the air. I had come to California to discover how matcha could possibly fit into a state so deeply connected to its own wellness culture.

As it turned out, California had a healthy and beautiful surprise waiting for me.

My journey began in the trendy streets of Venice Beach. I wandered past colorful murals and skateboarders, until I found a tiny matcha bar with a view of the ocean. The barista, a sun-kissed Californian named Jamie, greeted me with a warm smile.

"In California, we believe in living well," she said. "And matcha is the perfect way to do that."

She handed me a matcha smoothie bowl topped with fresh fruit. The matcha was creamy and perfectly balanced, and the fruit added a natural sweetness. I took a bite, and I was transported.

🌮 My Favorite Matcha Spots in California

Cha-ka Matcha – San Francisco

This is one of the best matcha spots in California. Their matcha latte is creamy and absolutely perfect.

Matcha Minka – Los Angeles

In the heart of LA, I discovered a matcha bar that serves creative matcha lattes and desserts.

Chora CafĂ© – San Diego

✨ My Personal Reflection

California taught me that matcha can be as bright and beautiful as a California sunset. It's not just a drink – it's a lifestyle, a celebration of health and vitality.

Best Matcha Cafés in Bali: A Solo Traveller's Guide

Bali does not grow matcha. But now, the Island of the Gods has become one of the best places in Southeast Asia if you want to drink it. The reason is not just the tea. It is about what you get when Japanese tradition meets Balinese ideas on health. You can feel this when you sit in a place that makes you forget about your phone. I spent three weeks riding a scooter. I moved between cafĂ©s in Canggu where people work with their laptops open, and small food spots hidden in the jungle in Ubud. I wanted to find the best cup. Here is what I found. Why Bali's Matcha Scene Is Different In Tokyo, people see matcha as a daily practice. In Seoul, the look of matcha is key. In Bali, matcha helps with getting better. The island has always cared a lot about health and wellness. You can find things like yoga shalas, cold water dips, raw food, and jamu tonics everywhere. Matcha fits in well here.
