đŸ” Matcha in Finland: Saunas, Northern Lights & My Helsinki Matcha Love Affair

Written by MATCHA MAYA — a solo traveller following the world’s most memorable green cups. đŸ”

Matcha Maya’s note: What stayed with me in Finland was not just the colour of the drink, but the small human moment around it—the conversation, the setting, and the feeling that I had found something local. ✨

Welcome to Finland – where saunas meet matcha! đŸ‡«đŸ‡ź

I'll never forget the moment I arrived in Helsinki. The city was a beautiful blend of Nordic design and natural beauty, its streets lined with elegant architecture and views of the Baltic Sea. I had come to Finland to discover how matcha could possibly fit into a country so deeply connected to its own sauna and design culture.

As it turned out, Finland had a warm and welcoming surprise waiting for me.

My journey began in the charming Design District. I wandered through the trendy streets, past design boutiques and cozy cafés, until I found a tiny matcha bar with a minimalist, inviting atmosphere. The barista, a friendly Finnish woman named Aino, greeted me with a warm smile.

"In Finland, we believe in the power of warmth," she said. "And matcha is the perfect way to find it."

She handed me a matcha latte and a Finnish pastry. The matcha was creamy and perfectly balanced, and the pastry was buttery and delicious. I took a bite, followed by a sip of matcha, and I was transported. The sweetness of the pastry and the earthiness of the matcha were a match made in heaven.

Matcha Bar – Helsinki

In the heart of Helsinki, I discovered a matcha bar that serves traditional matcha lattes and creative matcha desserts.

Taigu – Turku

In beautiful Turku, I found a matcha café with a view of the Aura River.

✨ My Personal Reflection

Finland taught me that matcha can be as warm and comforting as a Finnish sauna. It's not just a drink – it's a moment of relaxation, a celebration of the simple pleasures in life.

Best Matcha Cafés in Bali: A Solo Traveller's Guide

Bali does not grow matcha. But now, the Island of the Gods has become one of the best places in Southeast Asia if you want to drink it. The reason is not just the tea. It is about what you get when Japanese tradition meets Balinese ideas on health. You can feel this when you sit in a place that makes you forget about your phone. I spent three weeks riding a scooter. I moved between cafĂ©s in Canggu where people work with their laptops open, and small food spots hidden in the jungle in Ubud. I wanted to find the best cup. Here is what I found. Why Bali's Matcha Scene Is Different In Tokyo, people see matcha as a daily practice. In Seoul, the look of matcha is key. In Bali, matcha helps with getting better. The island has always cared a lot about health and wellness. You can find things like yoga shalas, cold water dips, raw food, and jamu tonics everywhere. Matcha fits in well here.
