đŸ” Matcha in India: Spices, Chai & My Mumbai Matcha Love Affair

Written by MATCHA MAYA — a solo traveller following the world’s most memorable green cups. đŸ”

Matcha Maya’s note: What stayed with me in India was not just the colour of the drink, but the small human moment around it—the conversation, the setting, and the feeling that I had found something local. ✨

Welcome to India – where chai meets matcha! 🇼🇳

I'll never forget the moment I arrived in Mumbai. The city was a beautiful chaos of colors, sounds, and flavors. I had come to India to discover how matcha could possibly fit into a country so deeply connected to its own chai and spice culture.

As it turned out, India had a spicy and beautiful surprise waiting for me.

My journey began in the bustling streets of Colaba. I wandered through the vibrant markets, past spice stalls and chai stands, until I found a tiny café tucked between a bookstore and a boutique. The owner, a passionate Indian woman named Priya, greeted me with a warm smile.

"In India, we believe in the power of spices," she said. "And matcha is the perfect canvas for our flavors."

She handed me a matcha latte with a hint of cardamom and cinnamon. The matcha was creamy and perfectly balanced, and the spices added a warm, aromatic depth. I took a sip, and I was transported.

🇼🇳 My Favorite Matcha Spots in India

Matcha Bar – Mumbai

In the heart of Mumbai, I discovered a matcha bar that serves creative matcha lattes and desserts.

Chora CafĂ© – Delhi

This charming café in Delhi serves a delicious matcha latte with a view of the city.

Taigu – Bengaluru

In beautiful Bengaluru, I found a matcha café with a view of the city's gardens.

✨ My Personal Reflection

India taught me that matcha can be as warm and inviting as a cup of chai. It's not just a drink – it's a celebration of flavor, a moment of connection that reminds you of the beauty of life.

Best Matcha Cafés in Bali: A Solo Traveller's Guide

Bali does not grow matcha. But now, the Island of the Gods has become one of the best places in Southeast Asia if you want to drink it. The reason is not just the tea. It is about what you get when Japanese tradition meets Balinese ideas on health. You can feel this when you sit in a place that makes you forget about your phone. I spent three weeks riding a scooter. I moved between cafĂ©s in Canggu where people work with their laptops open, and small food spots hidden in the jungle in Ubud. I wanted to find the best cup. Here is what I found. Why Bali's Matcha Scene Is Different In Tokyo, people see matcha as a daily practice. In Seoul, the look of matcha is key. In Bali, matcha helps with getting better. The island has always cared a lot about health and wellness. You can find things like yoga shalas, cold water dips, raw food, and jamu tonics everywhere. Matcha fits in well here.
