đŸ” Matcha in Thailand: Street Food, Thai Tea & My Bangkok Matcha Love Affair

Written by MATCHA MAYA — a solo traveller following the world’s most memorable green cups. đŸ”

Matcha Maya’s note: What stayed with me in Thailand was not just the colour of the drink, but the small human moment around it—the conversation, the setting, and the feeling that I had found something local. ✨

Welcome to Thailand – where street food meets matcha! đŸ‡č🇭

I'll never forget the moment I arrived in Bangkok. The city was a beautiful chaos of tuk-tuks, street food vendors, and the sweet aroma of tropical fruits. I had come to Thailand to discover how matcha could possibly fit into a country so deeply connected to its own vibrant street food culture.

As it turned out, Bangkok had a delicious and surprising matcha scene waiting for me.

My journey began in the bustling streets of Sukhumvit. I wandered through the lively markets, past sizzling woks and colorful fruit stalls, until I found a tiny matcha café tucked between a massage parlor and a tailor shop. The barista, a cheerful Thai woman named Nok, greeted me with a warm smile.

"In Thailand, we love to mix flavors," she said. "And matcha is the perfect ingredient for our creativity."

She handed me a matcha latte with a swirl of Thai tea. The matcha was creamy and perfectly balanced, and the Thai tea added a sweet, aromatic depth. I took a sip, and I was transported.

Matcha Bar – Bangkok

In the heart of Bangkok, I discovered a matcha bar that serves creative matcha lattes and desserts.

Chora CafĂ© – Chiang Mai

This charming café in Chiang Mai serves a delicious matcha latte with a view of the mountains.

Taigu – Phuket

In beautiful Phuket, I found a matcha café with a view of the Andaman Sea.

✨ My Personal Reflection

Thailand taught me that matcha can be as vibrant and joyful as a Thai street market. It's not just a drink – it's a celebration of flavor, a reminder to embrace the beauty of life.

Best Matcha Cafés in Bali: A Solo Traveller's Guide

Bali does not grow matcha. But now, the Island of the Gods has become one of the best places in Southeast Asia if you want to drink it. The reason is not just the tea. It is about what you get when Japanese tradition meets Balinese ideas on health. You can feel this when you sit in a place that makes you forget about your phone. I spent three weeks riding a scooter. I moved between cafĂ©s in Canggu where people work with their laptops open, and small food spots hidden in the jungle in Ubud. I wanted to find the best cup. Here is what I found. Why Bali's Matcha Scene Is Different In Tokyo, people see matcha as a daily practice. In Seoul, the look of matcha is key. In Bali, matcha helps with getting better.
