đŸ” Matcha in the UK: Afternoon Tea Meets Green Tea

Written by MATCHA MAYA — a solo traveller following the world’s most memorable green cups. đŸ”

Matcha Maya’s note: What stayed with me in the UK was not just the colour of the drink, but the small human moment around it—the conversation, the setting, and the feeling that I had found something local. ✨

Welcome to the UK – where tradition meets matcha! 🇬🇧

I'll never forget the moment I arrived in London. The city was drizzling, as it often does, and the streets were filled with the comforting sound of double-decker buses and the chatter of a million different languages. I had come to the UK to discover how matcha could possibly fit into a country so deeply connected to its own tea culture.

As it turned out, the UK had a delightful surprise waiting for me.

My journey began in Notting Hill. I wandered through the colorful streets, past pastel houses and vintage shops, until I found a tiny café with a cozy, inviting atmosphere. The barista, a friendly British woman named Emma, greeted me with a warm smile.

"In Britain, we love our tea," she said. "And matcha is our newest obsession."

She handed me a matcha latte and a plate of scones with clotted cream. The matcha was creamy and perfectly balanced, and the scones were buttery and delicious. I spread the clotted cream on the scone, took a bite, and then a sip of matcha – and I was transported. The sweetness of the scone and the earthiness of the matcha were a match made in heaven.

✨ My Personal Reflection

The UK taught me that matcha can be as comforting and traditional as a British afternoon tea. It's not just a drink – it's a ritual, a moment of connection, a celebration of the simple pleasures in life.

Best Matcha Cafés in Bali: A Solo Traveller's Guide

Bali does not grow matcha. But now, the Island of the Gods has become one of the best places in Southeast Asia if you want to drink it. The reason is not just the tea. It is about what you get when Japanese tradition meets Balinese ideas on health. You can feel this when you sit in a place that makes you forget about your phone. I spent three weeks riding a scooter. I moved between cafĂ©s in Canggu where people work with their laptops open, and small food spots hidden in the jungle in Ubud. I wanted to find the best cup. Here is what I found. Why Bali's Matcha Scene Is Different In Tokyo, people see matcha as a daily practice. In Seoul, the look of matcha is key. In Bali, matcha helps with getting better.
